MSHRM President’s Message – May 2026
A Shared Vision … A Common Goal
It has been a busy year for MSHRM and more to come….
Our 2026 MSHRM Spring Conference in March was an amazing day—and a momentous success. Thank you to the MSHRM Education Team for organizing a wonderful panel of speakers, especially RaDonda Vaught. Thank you as well to all who presented; to everyone who attended, whether in person or virtually; to our Membership Committee for promoting the conference; to UMass Memorial for allowing us to use their auditorium; to the UMass Memorial IT experts for their support; and to Erica Ravenelle, who managed behind-the-scenes work with registrations, evaluations, on-site details and more. We had attendees from across the country thanks to our sharing out invitation via the ASHRM website. Feedback for the conference included: “This was put together very well and some very tough topics with safe space presentation and support,” “the best MSHRM conference I’ve attended! Kudos!” “This was one of the best conferences yet! Loved how the topics all blended together,” and “Excellent conference! Thank you so much for offering this as I am from Indiana and was able to attend virtually.”
We hope you learned more about MSHRM during the Business Meeting—and that you enjoyed our member appreciation “Thank You” conference fee. Please consider joining one of the MSHRM committees as this is YOUR professional association (and is a wonderful networking opportunity). Please check out more information on our committees on our MSHRM website.
As we discussed during our business meeting, we are working on a Peer Support Program for the MA Risk Management Professionals. We are continuing our work with Dr. Mark Albanese and Dr. Paul Simeone from the Massachusetts Medical Society Physician Health Services and Linda Kenney, Betsy Lehman Center Peer Support Program. MSHRM representatives include Susan Montminy, Frank Korn, Tracey Tubert, Ailish Wilkie, Sheila Laffy, Janice Paulsen, and Linda Kenney.
Our second meeting is planned for June as we identify what would be helpful for risk management professionals dealing with the trauma of serious sentinel events, acts of nature and cybersecurity events that impact our organizations and ability to ensure safe patient care, and with the cumulative stresses of the daily work we do. We will keep you updated on our progress.
We hope you were able to attend the 2026 New England Regional Healthcare Risk Management Conference. It was an incredible conference with excellent presentations, networking opportunities, vendor exhibits, and sponsors we continue to thank. MSHRM was well represented on the committees that made this conference so successful – Steering, Education, Event, and Sponsorship. If you are interested in participating on one of these committees for the 2027 Conference, please let any member of the MSHRM Board know.
You will be noticing changes to our MSHRM website as it is revitalized. It is a work in progress but work that Linda Habibi, Mike Uzar, Jackie Miner, and Nick O’Clair, are willing to undertake.
Speaking of work – Linda and Mike have been working on our MSHRM LinkedIn page. If you have not yet signed on as a follower, now is a good time to do so! Check out the “Get to Know MSHRM” postings which has started with the MSHRM Board.
Thank you to Surabhi Saxena who is our new monthly MSHRM Collaborative Call Coordinator. This Call offers one (1) CEU per presentation on timely and relevant topics from the comfort of your desk. For June there is a panel of risk management professionals on To Terminate or Not Terminate, That Is the Question, which will go beyond termination from a physician office practice. If you are interested in presenting an online session to your colleagues, please reach out to Surabhi ([email protected]) to sign up! You DO have something to share with all of us.
Thank you as well to all of you who have participated in our recent surveys. The revised MSHRM Bylaws have been unanimously approved. The Educational Survey had a good response as the Education Committee, chaired by Susan Montminy, will use the results to continue to provide educational programs that meet your needs.
Speaking of thanks, I want to personally thank you for being a MSHM member! I hope you will not hesitate to reach out to me ([email protected]) with any concerns, considerations, and suggestions for MSHRM as we continue to work together for our shared vision and common goal.
Have a good summer!
Anne
